Day 49: The Start of One Crutch

I wanted to just give a quick update on how things are going with the weight bearing.  Day before yesterday I was finally able to get around the house a little during the day with one crutch.  When I get up in the morning it is stiff and takes a little while before I can attempt one crutch and then by the end of the day I need the other crutch again because it gets sore.  My lower back was even hurting last night…I guess I didn’t realize how many muscles I need to strengthen back up to be able to walk normal again.

I am still trying to get the return to work note situation sorted out in hopes for my company to approve.  Unfortunately, my doctor and physician assistant are both out of the country.  I called last Friday and then on Monday of this week to find out when I could expect to hear back from a nurse and when I could follow up.  I was told to follow up on Wednesday which I did yesterday and I am still waiting.

I am looking forward to my first PT appointment next Wednesday to get some additional feedback.  Until then I will just keep trying to get my walk down without a limp and keep both feet on the ground!  I hope everyone has a Happy Halloween and a great weekend!

Also, I took some time to write the history of my love for running and learning that I had hip dysplasia.  You can read it here.

  1. I came across this. Thank you for this. I had my right hip done 5 weeks ago today. I’ve felt great! We are having some crazy weather. I’m rather sore. Did this happen to you?

    1. Hi Tanya,

Yes, this happen to me and I still get a little achy when the weather is really bad. I never understood what people meant when they would say that they could feel the bad weather coming but it is so true!

I hope you continue to have a good recovery. It is a long recovery but it gets better with time.
